Potential coaching clients and coaching clients often come to me saying they don’t have time to work on the marketing tasks for their business. We’re pulled in many directions! I’ll give some steps that everyone can walk away with from managing to tasks of getting your business known and people sending you referrals.
In my coaching sessions, one of the first items that come up is someone needs a hack to get their marketing done in just minutes a week. They’ll create a social media posting schedule that burns them out and oftentimes not even working on the most important digital marketing tool you have, your website.
The first step, track your time for a week and look for blocks of time you can set aside to work on your marketing tasks. When you find them, block them in your calendar and hold that space sacred! You might find a perfect 4-hour spot on Wednesday afternoon. For me, it was Friday morning -- I’d block 9-noon and treat my business like I was a client.
For some people whose schedule varies from day-to-day and who have many balls in the air -- kids at home, taking older parents to doctor appointments -- you may just have to look at your schedule the night before and decide “I’m going to work in that 2-hour block between school drop-off and that doctor appt.”
For some, you’ll see the holes in your calendar and others will just have to play it day-by-day.
THE GOALS WITH THIS ACTIVITY ---TREAT YOURSELF AS A CLIENT.
Second step: Make a list of items you want to accomplish from most important to least important. Spend that time you block out, working on that list. Shut your phone off, close your office door, turn off your email. Hold that space sacred.
Third step: Once you finish once a goal, move on to the next goal. Don’t try to accomplish two or three goals at once, finish one, then move one.
ACTION STEP: TRACK YOUR TIME AND FIND WHERE YOU’RE WASTING IT AND FILL THOSE TIME WORKING ON THE GOALS YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.
